A picture from the Troja's column had brought to us an image of a galley - Aktcharia. She was a sufficiently high-boarded ship with a trident-ram and a stern acroter in the form of a shell curl. Separately placed groups of oars fastened on balconies - crinolines, ensured maneuvering of her in narrow places or between other ships. Crinolines were placed at different levels and it allowed working with every group of oars autonomously. Two powerful steering oars were placed near the stern. The inclined boards inside the shi were unusual for that time. These ships were used for provision and message purposes and, when properly decorated, for parade voyages of military leaders.
