| Pinnace |
At the beginning of the 17th century a new type of ships appeared in the north of Europe - pinnace. She resembled a fluit but differed from her greatly with a less concave frames and a flat stern. The fore part of a ship ended in a nearly right-angled cross bulkhead, stretching at height from a deck to a forecastle. This form of a bow part existed to the beginning of the 18th century. The length of a pinnace was up to 44 m. She had three masts and a powerful bowsprit. The main and the foremasts carried square sails, the mizzen mast carried a mizzen sail and a mizzen topsail. The bowsprit was equipped by a sprit and a sprit topsail. Displacement of pinnaces was from 150 to 800 t. They were intended primary for trading purposes.
